If you are wanting to eat better and would like to buy organic vegetables and fruit, but feel you can not afford them,  the Environmental Working Group has tested these to find the levels of pesticides.  They have found 15 fruits and vegetables that do not have high levels of pesticides yet are not labelled organic. (I have also found that organics don’t automatically cost more.  The demand for more organics in our town have made our grocery stores bring in more organics.  There are even sales on organics.)  Anyway, back to the 15, that are low in pesticides.

Onions, pineapple, avocadoes, cabbage, sweet peas, asparagus, cantaloupe, sweet corn, mangoes, eggplant, kiwi, sweet potatoes, grapefruit, watermelon and mushrooms.

These are very healthy foods that do not have to be organic to be safe to eat.  Environmental Working Group also does the dirty list. They have charts that you can print out and carry with you here.

I also want to include this tip that has nothing to do with food, but uses food ingredients as a furniture polish.  We are getting our house ready to sell and I wanted to wipe down our kitchen cabinets, but could not find the furniture polish that I really liked.  I googled to see if I could find a “natural” alternative that I could make at home.  AND I DID!

Mix ¾ cup of oil—I think I used grapeseed oil with ¼ cup white or apple cider vinegar.  Mix in a jar and rub into the wood.  You don’t need to wipe it off.  I thought too oily, but it is not and my dining room table looks fabulous as do my kitchen cabinets—and you do not have to worry about fumes, wiping it off or any other cleaning chemicals worry.  YEA!!!
