My last post was on not letting negative people influence you, affect your effectiveness.  I was struck by a post on Facebook, shared by one of my dear friends.  “Forgive others not because they deserve Forgiveness but because you deserve peace.”

Forgiveness can be a health benefit! According to multiple websites (listed below), forgiving someone who has hurt you can lower your blood pressure, reduce your stress, ease your headaches and insomnia.

“Forgiveness doesn’t mean that you deny the other person’s responsibility for hurting you, and it doesn’t minimize or justify the wrong. You can forgive the person without excusing the act. Forgiveness brings a kind of peace that helps you go on with life.” (1)

If there is someone in your life that has hurt you, you have choices. Be angry at them, hold it against them or let it go, forgive.  It is easy to hold something against someone but who does that really hurt?  Them or you? You are the one holding the anger and hurt inside of you, you are the one it is affecting, not them.  Forgiveness is not easy but the benefits are worth it.

“To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.” Louis B. Smedes
