Here at Health Now Wealth Forever, we believe in using local, fresh and whole foods as much as possible.  Luckily, the general consensus seems to be supporting these beliefs.  The resources for finding fresh and local food are right under our fingertips!  Below are listed websites and other resources for finding local, fresh foods.

  • Your local newspaper, usually in a lifestyle section or on their website there is a section for U-pick farms or local markets, especially at the beginning of fall and spring.
  • The internet:  www.localharvest.org is one of the best websites out there for finding local food.  Here are a few others: www.foodshare.net, www.greenthumbnyc.org, www.communitygarden.org, www.eatwellguide.org, www.eatwild.com and www.pickyourown.org.
  • Your local farmers markets are an excellent resource and most of the farms are CSA’s, community supported agriculture, which means you can buy shares in their goods and get fresh produce, dairy and meat weekly, biweekly or monthly depending on the size of your share.
  • Your local library or visitor’s center may have pamphlets on the highlights of where you live. Often that includes a pamphlet or 2 that boast the local agriculture.
  • Your favorite local restaurant. If they offer local, sustainable fare, they will usually have it listed or advertised on the menu.  If not, ask!

Knowing where to find the local, fresh food is key to supporting your community, knowing where your food is grown and how it is grown, and, last but not least, knowing what you are putting in your body!
