I have a new super food for you! Macadamia Nut Oil is fast becoming the new olive oil. Obviously, derived from the macadamia nut, this oil has benefits that compare and surpass the olive oil.

Macadamia Nut Oil is higher in monounsaturated fats than olive oil, 11 grams per tablespoon compared to the 9.8 grams per tablespoon of olive oil. (1)  Macadamia Nut Oil has a higher smoke point and does not lose its health benefits when heated.  It is made by just crushing the nuts, no chemical processing needed. (2)

Further benefits,

“The health benefits of macadamia nut oil are that it helps reduce the risk of heart disease as it maintains an optimum level of cholesterol in the body. The way macadamia nut oil reaches the higher health benefits than olive oil is that it is rich in oleic acid, linolenic, Omega-3, Omega-6, palmitoleic acid and linoleic acid. Chronic diseases are also helped by macadamia nut oil as it has high anti-inflammatory properties. The further benefits of the oil is that it is rich in vitamin B, calcium, iron and phosphorus.

The health benefits of macadamia nut oil stretch to having excellent skin rejuvenation properties. If your skin looks old and is dry, then it is good practice to take the oil as it has a high concentration of palmitoleic acid. Palmitoleic acid is present in young children’s skin but the level diminishes with age, hence older people should use it to rejuvenate their skin. The oil is a moisturizer and it softens the skin, and it is helpful in healing mild wounds. It has a low oral toxicity and therefore is also used in cosmetics such as lip gloss and balms.

Macadamia oil is also an anti-oxidant which helps prevent skin damage by free radicals and it can also help prevent sunburn from the high vitamin E content. Many people use macadamia nut oil on their hair as it is non-greasy and light. Other uses for macadamia nut oil are that it has a high smoke point (425 degrees Fahrenheit) and therefore it is good to use for frying. Also, it does not breakdown when heated and retains its benefits. As well as the health benefits of macadamia oil it is a very practical oil as it does not have to be refrigerated and lasts up to 2 years.”

You can find this delicious, nutritious oil in the health food section of your grocery store but a cheaper option is online for sure.  In my perusing of the natural oils, I have also seen other nut oils and will expand on those in this series of alternative oils.
