Rosemary – Delicious Medicine « Health Now, Wealth Forever

Rosemary is a spice that shows up in bread and chicken, but rosemary is much more than that.  Rosemary has shown up in my favorite shampoo—Queen of the Meadows.  I had not realized until I read their blurb that my shampoo with rosemary has a stimulating action which helps with hair growth.  I am way behind as rosemary has been used medicinally for a very long time.  Traditionally, rosemary has been “used to improve memory, relieve muscle pain and spasm, stimulate hair growth and support the circulatory and nervous systems.”(1)  So we see, rosemary also is good for our health.

This herb contains phenolic acids, bitter diterpenes, triterpenes (oleanic and ursolic acids), triterpene alcohols and flavonoids.  With all these contents its properties “has antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, spasmolytic, antioxidant, smooth muscle modulating, analgesic, venotonic, as well as anti-inflammatory” uses. (2)

According to the UUM site(1), rosemary has been used for indigestion (approved by the German Commission E), topically to treat muscle pain and arthritis and as I stated earlier improve circulation.  (There have been no studies to prove this.)  There are studies that support using rosemary for hair growth, inhibiting food-borne pathogens, improving memory and concentration as well as stress through aromatherapy.

Please do some research if you think rosemary can help you with any of the problems above.  There can be allergic reactions or reactions if you take certain antiplatelet and anticoagulant drugs, ACE inhibitors, diuretics, lithium, or diabetes.  Rosemary oil can be toxic if ingested and should never be taken orally.

So if you want to know just a little more about the great tasting herb that was doing you good while you enjoyed it’s flavor look into the links below.
