If “X” is for you to decide and “Y” is for yellow vegetables and fruit then:

What foods help you sleep?  Is eating certain foods or avoiding certain foods beneficial to your sleep?  To play off of the America’s Got Talent Judges:    “That’s a definite YES from me.”

You probably know about the foods to avoid:  sugar, simple carbs, caffeine, alcohol and stimulants of any kind.

You also probably have your favorite foods you think will help you have a good night sleep.  Do you have a reason for them or are they just something that has worked for you?  There is probably a valid reason they work.

According to research, foods that are high in calcium, magnesium, potassium, amino acids, and vitamin B-6 will assist your body in the production of natural sleep aids such as melatonin and can aid in producing quality sleep if consumed about an hour before going to bed.

Some commons foods with these ingredients are:

  • Almonds
  • Herbal Tea
  • Miso
  • Bananas
  • Dairy
  • Hard Boiled Eggs
  • Oatmeal
  • Edamame
  • Halibut, Salmon or Tuna
  • Jasmine Rice
  • Cherries
  • Whole Grain Cereals
  • Chickpeas
  • Kale

You can go simple:  one or two cups of chamomile tea.

Or you can go moderate:  a handful of almonds and a hard-boiled egg with a small glass of milk.

Or you can go advanced:  4 oz of grilled halibut topped with a green kale salad with chickpeas, jasmine rice and Edamame.

Or you can go creative:  a banana-cherry smoothie with milk and a tablespoon of oatmeal.

Sleep Well!

About Gary

I am retired, but not tired. I still want to be valuable to others. I know that others are valuable to me. After looking back on six decades, I have asked myself this question: “What do I believe?” My mind filled up. My heart started beating faster. My spirit soared. I post blogs to share what my mind is working on, what my heart believes would help others and, what my spirit is communicating to me. What do I believe, you ask? Decisions dictate your path In love, not hate In tolerance, not prejudice In health, not sickness In wealth, not poverty In kindness, rudeness In happiness, not sadness In encouragement, not discouragement In faith, not doubt In courage, not fear I have been and will be challenged in each one of these beliefs, but the biggest belief is to stay positive and not turn negative. This belief helps me maintain all of the others.
