Are you having life struggles with health, finances, loss, kids, parents, work, school, religion, politics, fairness, eating, exercising, weight control, alcohol, tobacco, change, etc?

Yep – me, too.

We all do – sometime during our lives we will struggle.  I was just listening to the news where they had coverage on famous people who, at one point in their lives were either living on the streets or in their car.

But, you do know that answers come in the strangest and most wonderful way to help us with our struggles.

After our parents passed away, my wife and I were tasked with going through the many, many boxes of paperwork, photos and keepsakes that they left behind.  Many items were entertaining, fascinating, interesting and informative.  Some were not.  Some items were worth donating to charity or family members. Some were just shreddable.

But, there were gems hidden all through the items – like an autograph book from 1882, a hand held survey tool, a document for an ancestor who was a 32nd level Scottish Mason – even a little, faintly typed half page poem – it was anonymous with no date.  It is so faint, it is very difficult to read.  But – here it is:

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems up-hill,

When the funds are low and debts are high

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh;

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest, if you must – but never quit!

Life is queer, with its twists and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns;

And many a failure turns to shout,

“He might have won if he stuck it out.”

Stick to your task, though the pace seems slow,

You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than

It seems to a faint and faltering man.

Often the struggler has given up

When he might have captured the victor’s cup,

But he learned too late, when the night slipped down,

How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out,

The silver tints of the clouds of doubt;

And you never can tell how close you are –

It may be near when it seems afar.

So stick to the fight when you are hardest hit,

It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.

Keep your chin up!

Keep your face smiling!

Keep your thoughts positive!
