My Plan to Eliminate My Christmas Panic

My holiday stress always seems to result from time getting away from me. Until recently, I was a chronic procrastinator. I have been working to recover from this debilitating disease, but around Christmas, when there is more to be done than ever, I fall back to my old ways.

It starts like this: “Oh it’s Thanksgiving, I should start thinking about Christmas presents. But, tomorrow is the busiest shopping day of the year, and this weekend the busiest shopping weekend.”

And then, it all seems to fade to gray and it’s, quite suddenly, December 23rd and I have to shop for everyone in two days. I make a list, go shopping, and it’s done at about 3 PM on the 24th, when I say to myself that this would have all been much easier had I taken a month to do it.

This year is pretty much a loss, but for next year I have a plan. On New Year’s Day, I will make a list of everyone I want to give a gift. I will set an appointment every month to go think about the gift I wish to give, go shopping, or write a Christmas card. By Thanksgiving, I won’t have to say I don’t want to go shopping tomorrow, I will sigh contentedly, laugh to myself and say I’m glad I’m done with my Christmas shopping.

I co-founded Health Now, Wealth Forever when I realized I was unhappy with where I was in life. I was overweight, unhealthy, and stuck in a business that I couldn't save. I had little hope. With our mission of helping others with the same problems, I am now in a much better place in all facets of my life. Most of my posts are about improving your diet - I think health most important. But, I also write about sustainable living, self-improvement, and occasionally improving finances. After all, one of my personal mottos is balance in everything.

That last minute holiday shopping is only stressful if you have other things to do. Otherwise, it’s a great way to ramp up your holiday spirit. You can get a pretty good high from buying that many great gifts in one day. And using reusable bags instead of holiday paper can make wrapping a breeze.
