Seeing the Good in the Bad

“Good is underneath every single thing that appears to be negative.”  (Daily Teachings, Day 22, The Secret)

My Mother broke her hip at the end of July.  She is 90.  I asked her while she lay in the emergency room if she wanted to go through all the surgery and recovery to walk again.  She said yes she did. We agreed together right then that the right surgeon, and all else would lead to that decision to walk again. There have been times when she wanted to go—would ask me to let her go.  I told her I could let her go, but her body will not, her “will” will not, and the her decision to walk again will not.  I believe that this “negative situation” has been a power for good.  She is a positive, happy person—even when grumpy.  She has the skilled nursing facility, where she is rehabilitating, talking about that happy lady.  She has had times when she has no dignity in the situation and has really been in pain, but when the situation is done, she will look at the person working on her and say “Thank you.  You have such a ‘hard’ job and I thank you for doing it for me.”

“If we can know that good is all there is, including in a negative situation, then we will see a negative situation transform into all good.” (Daily Teachings, Day 22, The Secret)

When she was given a drug that she had very “negative” side effects to, even then, when she thought she was going to die—her body and mind would not let her.  I had been wondering why until I read this reading.  We asked and agreed, and now, I see the good.  We have made decisions to move her closer to me, which I think will be a blessing to her and to me.  We would not have done that if she had not broken her hip.  There are “good reasons” that she has not gone.  We only need to reap the blessings and allow her to spread the happiness and goodness to all those she comes in contact with.

About Marilyn

I am a "retired senior" (I've been a school librarian and library tech for a government research facility) who is now pursuing a dream of a home business sewing bags of all sorts, crafting and being the creative person I have always wanted to be. I grew up in the center of Illinois and dreamed of actually living back in the state of Colorado where I was born and lived till the age of 7. That dream came true when I met my husband of 43 years while working together in Estes Park. I am interested in alternative medicine, continuing the good health I've always had, while returning to the pre-processed food era of: eating well, losing weight, and using products that do not harm the environment, me, my family and friends. I am for labeling GMO’s, using sustainable products, organics and finding solutions to everyday problems, like colds and sore muscles, using natural remedies. I have a positive attitude that has helped through a very hard year and will bring forth a life that will be full and happy. My family is wonderful and I am a happy lady, wife, mother, and grandma.
