Showing Gratitude

In the last 6 months, the single most important thing I have learned is what a powerful feeling gratitude is and how it not only affects me but how it can affect others.  I have been to the funerals/memorials of three family members, my 2 grandmothers and my husband’s great uncle and the common theme in their lives and in their deaths was gratitude.  It was talked about in all the services, how these 3 people affected many with the kindness and thankfulness they conveyed.  It got me thinking about what would be said when I move on from this life, will I be remembered as a grateful person?

“According to Cicero, ‘Gratitude is not only the greatest of the virtues but the parent of all others.’ Multiple studies have shown the correlation between gratitude and increased well-being not only for the individual but for all people involved.” (1)

When you say thank you, you spread acceptance, kindness and a willingness to recognize the good deeds of your fellow human.  For example, by thanking and acknowledging the nurses, doctors and other healthcare providers, my grandmother created a bubble of positive feelings and energy around herself.  People thought of her with love and kindness, they wanted to be in her presence.  They, in turn, showed her gratitude for her gratitude.  It was the same theme in all the memorials I attended, gratitude for the gratitude shown.

“Regular practice of gratitude can change the way our brain neurons fire into more positive automatic patterns. The positive emotions we evoke can soothe distress and broaden our thinking patterns so we develop a larger and more expansive view of our lives.  Gratitude is an emotion of connectedness, which reminds us we are part of a larger universe with all living things.” (2)

This thought has inspired me to be a person that is grateful for all aspects of my life, positive and negative; to realize the positive aspects of the negative things and be grateful for the lessons.  Then I hope that when I am remembered, I will be remembered with gratitude.

Here is a short video om YouTube that inspired me.

About Felicia

Hello, I am Felicia and I am one of the founding members of Health Now, Wealth Forever. When we came up with the concept of starting our family business, I was enthusiastic just to spend time working on a project with my family. But, as we have grown and expanded, my passion for educating myself and others - about alternative health options and changing the way we view finances and life - has taken over. While I admit I am not the healthiest of our group, I am working on it daily and hope that the articles I write help you to work on it with me. Thank you for supporting us and allowing us to open our minds and yours to an alternative way of look at health, wealth and life!
