Unintentional Collateral Damage

colateral damage photoThis is usually thought of as a necessary military action and/or result.  But – this is not what I am talking about.  What is on my mind is this:

Have you ever done or said something to someone under the complete intention of being kind or complimentary and find out to your chagrin that you have unintentionally hurt or insulted someone else?

I am confident that we all have done this.  I have seen on a blog this statement:  “In marriage, friendships, family and other relationships we hurt each other.  We don’t do it in malice.  It just happens.  An action taken a word spoken or even a look can harm someone …”

You find out about what hurt you inadvertently caused and take the proper actions.  You ask to be forgiven.  Hopefully they will extend graciousness and forgive you.  But, what if they don’t accept your request and won’t forgive?  Then what do you do?

What if it is the other direction?  What if their unintended action, word or look harms you?  Can you forgive them?

Forgiveness is the key ingredient. First, we must find a way to forgiveness ourselves.  Otherwise resentment, anger and bitterness will find their way into our life.  This will destroy our lives.  Forgiveness is the necessary element to healing and happiness.
